Tyler Executive Women’s Network establishes annual scholarship for business majors

Jan 06, 2014 by

The Tyler Executive Women’s Network has established an annual scholarship at Tyler Junior College, to further the organization’s mission of helping East Texas women become successful in business.

The Tyler Executive Women’s Network Annual Scholarship supports women living in Smith County who plan to major in business or a business-related field. The 2013-14 recipient is Sonia Reyes of Tyler.

With the average full-time student paying less than $2,000 in yearly tuition and fees, a $1,000 annual scholarship can provide significant assistance and make it possible for a student to complete their higher education at TJC.

Reyes is a 2013 graduate of John Tyler High School and plans to major in business administration. She ranked in the top 4 percent of her graduating class and earned college credits through dual-credit coursework, resulting in a 4.0 GPA as an incoming freshman at TJC.

Reyes said, “Thank you very much for giving me an opportunity to learn. It means a lot to me. I am very grateful toward you all.”

TEWN is a group of business and professional women at an executive level who are career-oriented and meet monthly to provide professional, educational and/or emotional support for each other. For information on TJC scholarships, please visit tjc.edu/ScholarshipPrograms.

Elissa Meisenheimer is TJC coordinator of donor relations.
