TJC Dental Hygiene Department establishes scholarship in honor of Dr. Glen Dyer

Dec 14, 2012 by

The Tyler Junior College Department of Dental Hygiene faculty and staff were inspired by Dr. Glen C. Dyer’s passion for teaching students and serving the dental community. Upon hearing about Dr. Dyer’s intentions to retire, the dental hygiene faculty and staff gave to establish the Dr. Glen Dyer Endowed Scholarship for Dental Hygiene in honor of Dr. Dyer’s service to TJC and the Tyler dental community during the 20 years he worked at TJC.

Together, the dental hygiene faculty and staff encouraged the local dental community and Dr. Dyer’s former students to make a contribution to help the group meet a fundraising goal of $10,000.

Donations poured in from local dentists who appreciated Dr. Dyer for training and educating high quality dental hygienists to assist them in their offices. Former students and family members also gave generously to help meet the endowment goal. The dental hygiene faculty and staff’s efforts proved successful when the endowment goal was exceeded, and the scholarship will award for the first time next fall.

The scholarship was announced at the TJC dental hygiene alumni reception during TJC’s homecoming activities, and many of the contributors attended the event to thank Dr. Dyer for his dedication to the community.

Dr. Dyer owned his own dental office before deciding to teach at TJC as the Dental Clinic Supervisor.
