Sponsorships sought to help Apache Band and Belles take Japan trip

Dec 14, 2012 by

The Apache Band and Belles are preparing to spend Spring Break 2013 in Japan, where they will entertain U.S. troops stationed at Yokosuka Naval Base and Yokota Air Force Base, along with a stop at Tyler’s Sister City, Yachiyo.

In addition to the long hours of rehearsal that go into their performance, the groups are also hard at work raising money for the trip. Ruth Flynn retired as director of the Apache Belles last year and has joined TJC’s advancement team in a part-time capacity as Apache Band and Apache Belles advancement officer. Recently, Flynn and the TJC advancement team began a new project to help ease the financial burden for Apache Band and Belles members taking the Japan trip.

“Each student has committed to personally funding half of the trip cost as well as participating in fundraising efforts,” Flynn said, “but more help is needed.”

The cost of the trip is $3,200 per person, and sponsorships are being sought to help defray the cost for Apache Band and Belles members.

“This is an ambitious trip,” she said. “I know that our Band and Belle alumni remember the excitement they experienced when they made trips such as these to perform for an international audience.

They made memories that will last a lifetime, and I hope they will help make this trip possible for the TJC students of today.

“It’s the generous support of TJC alumni and friends that allows the Apache Band and Apache Belles to continue their long tradition as goodwill ambassadors who take Tyler Junior College and Texas-friendly hospitality around the world.”
