Moore named vice president of student affairs

Dr. Johnny Moore was named TJC vice president for student affairs earlier this year, succeeding Dr. Austin Lane who was named president of Lone Star College-Montgomery.

Moore oversees all aspects of the student experience at TJC, from orientation to graduation. The student affairs division encompasses the departments of admissions, advising, athletics, financial aid, registrar, student life and involvement, residential life, student organizations, judicial programs, career services, support services, tutoring and testing.

From 1994 until he joined TJC, Moore was at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla., where he rose through the ranks from math instructor, assistant professor, associate professor and full professor/mathematics department chair to vice president of student affairs.

A native of Hope, Ark., Moore graduated in 1985 from Washington-Lincoln High School as class valedictorian. He was an all-state basketball player and scored nearly 2,000 points and is still the all-time leading scorer in the school’s
history.

He received his Master of Science degree in mathematics from Arkansas State University and a Ph.D. in math education from the Florida Institute of Technology. He and his wife, Sequoyah, have a son, Johnathan.
