Class Notes – Summer 2014

Samuel L. Bates, Jr. is currently employed as a Parole Officer II with the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles and has been employed with the State of Texas for 28 years. He is an active member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. In December 1983, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State University, now known as Texas A&M-Commerce.


Erica L. Allen is a full-time registered nurse at East Texas Medical Center.

Kelly N. Alvarado is a licensed vocational nurse at a home health agency.

Nancy R. Arreguin’s daughter Rosa was recently married to Dillon Atkins (who is in the Army) and they are expecting their first child in May. Nancy will be a grandma!

Elizabeth M. Baumgarn graduated from Tyler Junior College in May 2013. She already had a job lined up as a sign language interpreter at Tyler Junior College. She is so happy with where she is and how quickly her career took off.

Elizabeth M. Beaver is currently enrolled in the nursing (BSN) program at The University of Texas at Tyler.

Bradley K. Bogue is a pipeline welder and owner of Double B Welding.

Zimba S. Borromeo started her first year at UT Tyler and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Paula J. Brooks graduated from Tyler Junior College; and in connection with her internship through her workforce class, she has gained employment as a medical billing specialist.

Shaquille D. Carter began attending the University of North Texas in Fall 2013.

Ashley N. Caldwell is working as a substitute teacher Tyler ISD and Whitehouse ISD.

Merilyn R. Cheatham has a new granddaughter, Jordyn Valerie.

Deana M. Christopher welcomed a baby boy to the family in July 2013.

Christopher D. Dawson has a received a job as an electronics technician at TCEQ.

Lori L. Duphorne is a nurse at UT Medical Branch – Skyview in Rusk.

Alisha N. Givens is enrolled in the RN program at Tyler Junior College.

Dayna M. Hall received her associate’s degree in general studies. She got married last October and is living in Killeen with her husband. When he gets out of the Army, the couple will move to Florida.

Patsy N. Hall has been working part time at TJC-Lindale for four years and takes care of her elderly parents and aunt.

James T. Helmuth and his wife Margaret recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

Juliet C. Jagoe just announced that she will be married on March 14, 2015.

Mary T. Jones is a flight attendant for American Airlines.

Bryan W. Karr is pursuing a degree in exercise science at University of Texas at Arlington and plans to graduate in May 2015.

Cameron J. Lindell has received a two-year, full-ride scholarship to the University of Wyoming.

Ashley M. Lollar has finished the paramedic program and plans to take her national registry exam soon.  She will be applying for the paramedic transition to RN program in October and hopefully be attending TJC again in January.

Kutemba Lubasi is continuing nursing school at Tyler Junior College.

Shemina S. Maddox is currently a patient account representative at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital.

Jordan D. McAnally took her state boards in September and is currently looking for a job.

Rebecca McIntyre just had her first child in February 2014.

Matthew S. McKeethan is working at Glo-Flame and is starting paramedic school in the Fall 2014.

Lydia Mears is working at Trinity Mother Frances in the Louis & Peaches Owen Heart Hospital and is very excited about this new phase in her life and looking forward to the challenges and new experiences.

Angel Medina spent most of her summer studying for the surgical technology certification exam – which she passed! She is now applying for jobs.

Lakethya Minter graduated from the vocational nursing program in November 2013.

Jerrod L. Moore has been working at Target on Broadway in Tyler since July of last year. Since graduation he has been looking for a job in law enforcement and hasn’t had any luck but hopes something will come along soon.

Adam B. Mureiko has been designing, branding and building up his farm stay/bed and breakfast, Restoration Homestead, while learning computer programming and building a freelancing design/photography side business. He said, “I’m surrounded by friends and family, working hard, raising chickens, having a barrel of fun, and enjoying every day the Lord brings!”

Levi Muniz was an intern and eventually hired at Goodwin & Marshall Inc. He said, “It is a great place and I thank them for their support. I will return to finish my core curriculum and earn my bachelor’s degree at University of Texas at Tyler.”

Misty D. Natera is working at BBVA Compass Bank until November and will be going into Phase 2 of the education course.

Mary K. Nyangenya graduated in December 2013 with her LVN and plans to work toward her registered nurse degree.

Richard A. Oaxaca has attended Case Western Reserve University and is working on his Master of Fine Arts in dance.

Emmanuel J. Ojeda is enrolled at the University of Texas at Tyler for a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Matthew S. Phelps graduated Tyler Junior College in May 2013 and received a job at Caltech’s Tyler branch in August. He said, “Making great money. Thanks, TJC!”

Crystal L. Pyle is currently working in the radiology tech field and is working three jobs to make ends meet. Her fiancé proposed to her on stage at graduation. She is working as much as she can so he can focus on school.

Marilu Romero has recently purchased a new home.

Corey M. Schmidt has graduated as an LVN.

Rae Lynn Simpson is pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Heather M. Smalley welcomed Ethan Wayne Smalley to her family on Dec. 13, 2013.  He weighed 8 lbs., 14oz. Heather was hired as a paralegal at the Law Office of Kevin Ferrier on Jan. 27, 2014.

Jerry S. Starling is working for Aramark at Tyler Junior College.

Tiffany L. Sparks is a unit tech at Trinity Mother Frances Health System.

Leslie D. Stiles has a new job as a corrections officer at Billy Moore Correctional Center.

Cassandra L. Swanson started Tyler Junior College reading on a second-grade level. She said, “In January 2013, I was a guest speaker at Hollytree Country Club and was in the BSCENE Magazine in March 2013 and Tyler Today in April 2013.”

Holly A. Williams was hired as a registered nurse at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital.

Tiffany A. Willis is a licensed vocational nurse at Rusk State Hospital.
