Apache Belle alumni group kicks off East Texas Chapter

Jan 06, 2014 by

Apache Belle Gold, the alumni group of the Tyler Junior College Apache Belles, has established an East Texas Chapter.

The group held its official kickoff in September, with a gathering at Coyote Sam’s Bar & Grille in Tyler.

“All former Apache Belles living in the East Texas area were invited to attend and we had an excellent turnout,” said Don Fraser, TJC director of alumni affairs.

The purpose of the East Texas Chapter is to reflect the principles of the Tyler Junior College Alumni Association and the Apache Belle Gold, which is to unite, inform and involve Apache Belle Gold alumni and friends regionally for the purpose of promoting, protecting and preserving the Tyler Junior College Apache Belle organization.

This marks the 66th year of the Apache Belles, TJC’s high-kicking, precision dance team that began in 1947.

The Apache Belles have long served as goodwill ambassadors for Tyler Junior College, having performed for many U.S. presidents and dignitaries.

They have been featured in numerous NBA and NFL halftimes, including two Super Bowl halftime appearances.
